ADES

ADES produces solar cookers and energy-saving stoves in Madagascar and promotes the use of renewable energy sources. Solar cookers can save huge amounts of wood and charcoal. Thus they contribute considerably to the protection of the climate as well as the biodiversity, and they also open up paths out of poverty.

Description of the project

Since 2001 ADES has been producing and implementing solar cookers and and since 2010 energy-saving stoves in Madagascar. ADES is a nonprofit organisation, since 2008 a certified “gold standard” climate protection project (with myclimate as partner) and owns the ZEWO seal approval for charitable organisations. The stoves are sold at a reduced price in order to make them affordable for the local population. ADES has grown to over 150 employees in eight production and sales centers throughout Madagascar. The climate-friendly solar cookers and energy-saving stoves reduce the consumption of charcoal or firewood by up to 50 percent. The money saved for wood and charcoal can be used for food and the children are sent to school instead of gathering wood. For every sold cooker we plant two trees in different partnership-reforestation projects. Each cooker saves 3 tons of CO2 and protects 0,3 ha of forest every year.
